A 20 years old near death experience

Listening to “Hidden Brain” now. I’m a new listener, and they mention how old experiences shape our lives in the present.

It reminded me of one of my near-death experiences. There were several.

I was coming back by myself from lunch in Tel Aviv, on Habarzel Street. There was heavy construction going on. I think it was the Assuta hospital being built.

Two huge trucks were parked one behind the other, blocking the sidewalk.

I looked carefully to make sure nobody was in the trucks before walking between them. They were empty.

Just as I was about to reach the other side, a third truck driving on the road hit the back of the rear truck. The three trucks smashed into each other, one of the bumpers hitting my chest from the side.

If the crash had happened one or two seconds earlier, I would have been crushed.

I remember the look on the driver’s face.

My heart pumping like crazy.

My chest in pain.

WTF.

Then he drove off, and that was the end of it.

There were people nearby, but I don’t think anyone really paid attention.

Back at the office, our COO told me I was lucky.

And ever since, I get very nervous whenever I walk between two cars.

(I tried to tell ChatGPT the 2 trucks I was walking between were perpendicular to the street, and the 3rd one was driving down the street. But close enough…)
