20 years of DreamHost
About twenty years ago, I opened a DreamHost account (thanks, Eran Lahav for the inspiration).
It started with 42tags.com. Then came my personal website, a few sites for friends, Anobi, and smaller experiments like RigidIngrid.
Things got bigger when I started hosting LickNRiff for Assaf. And for the last decade or so, Assaf, Shira, and I have been splitting the bill.
A couple of years ago, it occurred to me that pretty much everything I was hosting had become static. I could probably move it all to AWS and reduce the hosting bill from around $150 a year to $15.
Naturally, it took me another year and a half to actually do something about it.
A few months ago, I finally started moving the sites, one by one.
And today, I’m done.
It’s a little strange to close an account that’s been around for twenty years. All those projects, ideas, and experiments. Some took off. Others didn’t. But for a long time, they all had a home.
Thank you, DreamHost.
Your name suits you remarkably well. I really did host my dreams on your servers.
And now, to many more.
